Hi, I’m Jennifer Webb, founder of Contentment Questing.
I used to be the world's worst at beating up on myself. You know how people say that you have to be your own cheerleader? I was more like my own worst enemy and critic.
I'd encourage my friends and be supportive of them, but when it came to myself, it was a different story.
My inner critic grew into a beast - because I kept feeding her negative things. I'd tell myself things like:
-You're not good enough
-Why are you even trying?
-What makes you think you can succeed? What a joke!
-You're such a dummy, ugly, stupid, fat, etc
-Nothing you try ever goes right
Pretty harsh, eh? It probably doesn't come as a shock that my mental health was affected and over time I grew sadder, less confident, and less self-assured.
I'd listen to sad songs and things that brought me down - pretty much the opposite of what I teach in this course. I did all the wrong things for self-encouragement.
Until one day I decided that I was tired of not being happy and I set out on a journey (or a quest, if you will) to change that. I called it my Contentment Quest.
A big part of that was learning how to shut up that inner mean girl critic that had grown so mean and nasty. I had to learn how to encourage myself and stop beating myself up. I had to learn how to focus my mind on better things and be mindful of the things that I put into my mind. And I also had to learn how to find the things that made me happy so that I could get the most out of the time that I took for myself.
All that took a long time - years.
But as part of my journey to become happier with myself, I vowed that if I ever figured it out, I'd share it with others.
